Seph contained her laughter at Rin's frown of confusion. It made her want to use her language even more, but she knew she would have to contain herself. Not go over the top. She watched as he turned his head away, presumably to hide his discomfort.
“If the pack is going to find us they should have by now,”
Seph shook her head. She could smell the scent of another wolf on the breeze, and knew they would have company soon. She sat up and winced, holding her mangled paw in front of her.
"We had better get ready. They are seeking us out now."
Just as the words left her maw another wolf stalked though the trees and bristled her fur. As Seph as expected, the wolf did not look happy. In fact, quite the opposite. With her bristled and her teeth bared, the female clearly thought of herself as the boss. Seph's eyes flickered over to Rin, she went back to the femme before her.
"Why, hello, strangers," She snarled, keeping her voice from being overly threatening, but warning just the same. "I trust that your reason for being in my territory is a good one? Or else who would not have come here and hunted prey that should have been mine when it is so scarce. Or would you have?"
Sephs ears flickered in alarm. The words this wolf chose where hard to understand. Clearly she seemed to be trying to hard. Suddenly feeling overwhelmed, she swallowed deeply.
"Hello. I'm not sure our reason would suit you, but I will say it none the less. I am traveling to a new territory, where I hope to join a pack or clan. We hunted down the elk because we were hungry. The doe was old, and clearly you would not have caught her. He will be traveling with me, at least that's what he said."
She meant no disrespect, but it was true. If the wolf was as hungry as she projected, why had she not caught the doe already. With a short nod to Rin, she urged him to proceed with his explanation.

Rinato Isshu had to suppress the urge to roll his eyes at the white wolf’s dramatic entrance. If she was acting in a play he would have given the female a standing ovation. Trying to be cryptic and menacing at the same time with hints of friendliness was a hard thing to pass off, even harder when the female technically owned the last meal they ate, but she pulled it off.
Seph’s reply to the stranger was a bit more under controlled, though it was almost as cryptically sassy as the white wolf’s first demands. While his new friend talked Rin nodded his head at the right times.
Yes, we’re traveling looking for packs.
Yes, we killed your doe.
Yes, it was deliciously fantastic at that.
Yes, I am traveling with her. Thank you very much.
He didn’t need the little gesture from Seph to continue to talk where she left off. Clearing his throat in an equally dramatic way (look out critics! Here comes Rin to steal the show) he stood up and took a step away from Seph, his tail swishing out to become a barrier between Seph and the new stranger. Despite his playful attitude he had, Seph was still injured and he would not let the new wolf become the cause of any more harm.
“What my friend said is all correct,” he started slowly, offering a debonair smile to the almost snarling creature in front of him, “we’re traveling for a pack to join and became hungry. It was by luck we caught the doe, but we did such a deed so we didn't starve. You, of all wolves, should understand how hard it is to eat in this place.”
Now Rin’s golden eyes flashed, the Beta in him becoming bolder as he spoke. He didn’t feel they were that in the wrong. A wolf has got to feed himself.
“As you can see my friend is injured. Now we don’t want any trouble, we’ve eaten what we can and the rest of the doe is yours, but if you have a healer in your pack then I wish to see her. Then, and only then, if you don’t want us here we can leave.”
His stern gaze locked on the white female was unflinching as he talked and waited for her response. The muscles under his thick coat were taut with pressure as he readied himself for anything.

As Avranathe stood, snarling at the two strangers, the lighter colored she-wolf looked around at Av, her ears flickering in alarm. She swallowed, and spoke. "Hello. I'm not sure our reason would suit you, but I will say it none the less. I am traveling to a new territory, where I hope to join a pack or clan. We hunted down the elk because we were hungry. The doe was old, and clearly you would not have caught her. He will be traveling with me, at least that's what he said." At this Av calmed a little after digesting in her mind what the she-wolf had said, that she was looking for a Pack or Clan to join. As her fur slowly sank back down to her body, she also reasoned with herself that These two canines must have been at least as hungry as she was, and that she would've most likely killed any prey animals that she could find as well, for there was hardly any fairness or law in the way of hunger and survival. She thought in particular of an instance on the Snowstar Mountain, where she had fought another for their prey.
Then the strange male wolf spoke, offering a small smile. "What my friend said is all correct, we’re traveling for a pack to join and became hungry. It was by luck we caught the doe, but we did such a deed so we didn't starve. You, of all wolves, should understand how hard it is to eat in this place.” Avranathe nodded slowly, the snarl fading from her lips to be replaced with a look of faint curiosity and understanding.
Then the black wolf's golden eyes grew more intense; he obviously thought strongly that he and his companion were not in the wrong. “As you can see my friend is injured. Now we don’t want any trouble, we’ve eaten what we can and the rest of the doe is yours, but if you have a healer in your pack then I wish to see her. Then, and only then, if you don’t want us here we can leave.” As he spoke, he stared straight into Av's eyes, with an intensity that told the she-wolf his words were true; the two would not leave until they found what they were looking for. Avranathe held the black wolf's gaze, determined still to show that she was of the highest rank of their company, but soon found that she felt almost a second in the eyes of this male.
Finally the she-wolf turned away, her icy eyes instead coming to rest upon the gray wolf who she now really noticed was injured. She thought of what they had said, and also thought of how she could hardly call the Fenrai pack a pack yet, as she was the only member. These two could be good contributers to the pack, if they were willing to take on the burden of laws and loyalty. Tail raised, Av padded over to the she-wolf and sniffed her warily. The loners did not seem dangerous or unfriendly, but there was no harm in being careful. She was injured, all right; blood trickled from her wound and the blood already spilled began to dry in her fur.
Av straightened up after inspecting the she-wolf, her eyes glinting with worry and understanding. "I am sorry. I've overreacted, and I apologize for acting so rudely. You are right; I most likely would not have caught that deer, and I would of course not have been able to eat it all if I had. I hope you will forgive me." She then bowed her head slightly, then looked back up at the black wolf. "I have no healer in my pack, and I regret to say that I am currently the only member. I do have a small knowledge of healing, though, and I would be happy to do all that I can." Av then stepped back from the she-wolf, and looked at both strangers in turn.
"You say that you are looking for a pack, do you not? And I would be happy to accept you. We would hunt together, live together and survive together. You may join my pack if you wish it, and you are prepared to face the challenges and burdens of leadership and loyalty." The white wolf knew that she was being a little forward, but she was lonely and needed companionship and friends. "But before you decide, I should like to know your names. First off, I am Avranathe Chase, Drappa of the Fenrai Pack."
Av dipped her head in official greeting, and sat down. She looked to the loners and awaited their introductions.

Seph watched the white wolf with wary eyes as she lowered her defenses. Breathing an inaudible sigh of relief, she tipped her head as Rin spoke. She smiled slightly when he said 'my friend', knowing that she would have called him the same. She sneezed and shivered as a small cloud of snow swirled around her. Stiffening slightly when the she-wolf examined her, she sneezed again.
I do have a small knowledge of healing, though, and I would be happy to do all that I can."
Seph tipped her head to the side, her eyes full of curiosity. This she-wolf sure had a lot of mood swings. Her heart fell a bit when she said the pack was not a pack, but rather just her, and that she did not have a healer. She resolved to let her look at her paw and hope for the best.

Seph's heart fell some more. The she-wolf must be lonely, in this desolate place. Why chose such a barren land to make a pack in? As she introduced herself as Avranathe, Seph looked down at her paws, her eyes guilty.
"I am Persephone Skycatcher, loner in search of a pack." The femme sighed. "Nice to meet you Avranathe. I think you will make a fine pack leader. I will let my companion introduce himself, but you must know something. I'm fairly sure I cannot stay here. My fur wont allow it. It never seems to grow into a winter coat, and I would surly freeze here. But perhaps me and my companion will part ways, and he might stay with you." Her last sentence was sad, for both her and for the she-wolf in front of her. Seph truly wanted Avranathe to be happy. And if Rin wanted to stay, who was she to stop him?

He watched with cautious suspicion as the white wolf crept over, tail high in the air, to inspect Seph’s wound. Rin’s golden eyes flickered to catch Seph’s before falling down to look at her damaged paw, the scent of her blood almost overpowering that of the dead doe’s. There was a brief moment he almost stepped back to force the new wolf away from Seph, not quite trusting the white female, but Rinato saw how the former hostility once present in the stranger’s stance seemed to vanish as she realized they were speaking the truth about Seph’s injury. His own body started to relax as the stranger backed off and began to talk.
Rin found it curious how quickly this Avranathe (another longed named wolf- two in one day, what a record!) changed her tune once she found out that Rin and Seph were looking for a pack to join. Though, in all reality, he could not blame the white wolf. There was something dismal in being alone in a forsaken land claimed by winter’s wrath.
“I'm fairly sure I cannot stay here. My fur won’t allow it. It never seems to grow into a winter coat, and I would surly freeze here. But perhaps me and my companion will part ways, and he might stay with you."
The last part of Seph’s statement pulled Rin from his thoughts as he frowned at her words. He could think of a few reasons why he had no desire to actually stay in this land despite his yearning to join a pack: Seph was his first friend since he left his pack and with that he felt a certain connection to her. Her injury was his fault, even if he didn’t want to admit it, but he couldn’t just leave her. Plus, this place was winter. It was the same thing that killed so many in his last pack. Rin had had enough of starving pups, elders freezing in their sleep, and all the other crap that came with frost.
Pushing that away Rin turned to face Avranathe, “Rinato Isshu,” he stated quickly, “What can you do for my friend’s paw?”
He avoided giving any telling of his plans to stay or go. There was always a chance that Avranathe would refuse to help them if she knew neither wolves would join.
